Tower defence games are not something I tend to play, not sure why, they just never really appeared on my radar. Because of this I don’t claim to be any kind of expert on the genre, however I can definitely say that I enjoyed this one.
In this game you play as Buck Mann (voiced by Liam O’Brien) who is a essentially a space trucker. While hauling various cargo his ship will be set upon by pirates, rival truckers and asteroids. With every defeated enemy they drop some loot, which in this case is hexnuts, these hexnuts allow you to add new weapons and thrusters etc to your ship as well as make repairs.
Once you’ve successfully completed a run you’re judged on how fast you were and how much of the cargo is safe, the faster you were the more you get paid. But with each run you don’t just earn money but also reputation. You’ll need both to be able to purchase new modules for your ship and upgrade them.
This game can get really hectic, with enemies coming from multiple angles thick and fast. It’s never too much to handle but you’ll almost certainly never achieve a perfect score on your first try, thankfully you can repeat any run with all the new tech and upgrades you’ve unlocked. However, each time you repeat the run the reward will become less and less.
Let’s just say I liked this game enough to buy the sequel.
