It’s not often that I come across a pure stealth game. Most of the time stealth is just a part of the game, sure it might be a major component such as with Dishonored but it’s very rarely the sole mechanic. That’s not the case with El Hijo, in fact with this game there is no way to enter into combat at all, if you get caught you’re sent right back to the last checkpoint.
As much as I love a stealth game though there was something about this game that didn’t truly grab me. I struggled for a while to put my finger on what exactly was keeping it from holding my interest, but I think I’ve worked it out. The game is too repetitive, especially in the early stages. The thing is, most stealth games are repetitive, it’s in their very nature, after all there are only so many ways to sneak past someone. But in the case of El Hijo it drags out the early stages and tutorialising for too long. When I’ve made it fourteen levels in (out of thirty I should add) and I’m still being given tutorial missions I think you’ve made a misstep somewhere.

My overall thoughts… well, I’m glad I got this as part of a humblebundle rather than on it’s own. I feel that the game is a bit too barebones to really warrant the current Rrp.
