Ever wanted to change how someone remembers an event? Perhaps that time you went to a party and were sick in the closet? If the answers yes then perhaps Remember Me may pique your interest.
You play as Nilin a amnesiac on a quest to change the world and hopefully recover her lost memories. Now I know I’ve said this a few times before but it is so nice to play as a strong female lead, and what makes it better… She’s not caucasian. Thank you Dontnod Entertainment!

Throughout the game there are three types of collectible, SAT Patches provide a health bonus and Focus Boosts, you guessed it increase the maximum focus you have (more on that later). The last type are called Mnesist packs, these expand upon the world your character inhabits, similar to the codex in the Mass Effect series but without a voice over.

Occasionally you will get to invade the mind of a target and change a memory. You do this by watching the memory through and then rewinding and finding ‘glitches’ to interact with. They glitches could be something as simple as toppling a statue or moving a piece of furniture, and those small changes may have a large effect… Or maybe it’s a red herring and makes no difference at all. Sadly this mechanic is underused occurring only a few times in the game.

Remember Me’s world is stunning and well realised, even the bits which are dilapidated have a beauty to them. If there is a flaw with the graphics it’s that during combat they can be a bit… Busy. This is especially true during QTE’s where you can miss them as the merge in the background.

There are many complaints to be had about the combat, it does feel very loose when compared to the likes of the Batman Arkham game series. But it does do some interesting things, for example as you progress through the game you will unlock ‘pressens’. These can be used to create combo’s that can will regenerate health, deal high damage and speed up the cool down time on your focus attacks.
Focus attacks are special moves that you can perform that allow you to take out certain enemies more efficiently, or at all in some cases.

My final verdict? A brave first effort from Dontnod Entertainment. It falls flat in a lot of ways but succeeds in many too. To be honest I’m not sure if it’s worth the Rrp, I got it during a sale at a heavily discounted price and I’m very glad I did but £22.99? I don’t think there’s enough in this game to warrant it.
I will say this though, I hope they return to this world for a more well polished sequel.
