I have to be honest this game didn’t grab me, perhaps its the fact that I have played the other mainline Serious Sam titles (with exception of 3 or the VR titles) that spoils it for me. I found the humour more puerile than usual and the experience of playing the game lacklustre over all.
One thing I do know is that it being a 2D game isn’t a factor in why I didn’t enjoy it, I’ve actually been playing a lot of those lately and so far really enjoying my time.

If I were to pinpoint one specific moment that soured my mood it was literally right at the start when Sam makes a rather sexist pass at his holographic partner. If it were that alone that wouldn’t have spoiled the mood entirely, I’m not so sensitive as that. However, it didn’t help that the holographic partner had breasts that literally hung outside of her portrait window… subtle.
The combat is the best part of the game which is to be expected since the Serious Sam series isn’t exactly writing masterpieces when it comes to the story. The series has always been about shooting large amounts of enemies with increasing firepower and in that regard this game definitely lives up to its promises. The gun stacking system in particular is interesting simply because its quite fun to stack a rocket launcher to a tommy gun and a shotgun and have them all fire at once.
In order to stack the guns you’ll need to find ‘connectors’, each connector you have allows you to add one more gun to your stack. Something that you can manage in the inventory screen that is accessible at checkpoints.

So yeah… as I said at the beginning of this review I didn’t feel this game at all. It felt cheap not only in its jokes but also in its production.
