In my hunt for a scary (at least horror themed) game to play for Halloween I discovered Montague’s Mount. Steam would have you believe that it’s a psychological thriller and it even has the tag of horror. So I thought I’d grab it and take a look… and sadly I have to say I’m disappointed.
I was hoping for horror, for suspense, for thrills and what I got was a mess of dullness. The game has some puzzles which are actually quite challenging and had me stumped for quite a while but it falls utterly flat on the core part of the game, the suspense. Y’know that thing that makes a thriller a thrill to play. The story I found quite predictable and to be honest a little hackneyed.

As a plus I do have to applaud the developer for promoting the Irish language of Gaeilge through the usage of giving every item its Irish language name and then giving the English translation in brackets. Its also clear they tried to use a lack of colour to provide a darker tone to the game. Sadly though the game just looks dull and grey.
I wish I could recommend this game, I truly do, but there are many other games that are far more deserving and entertaining that could be bought instead.
