This is yet another in a new line of content I’m experimenting with. I wanted a way to cover games that have come out recently that may change as it gets later updates down the line. That way once its had a few updates I can return to it and give a more up to date review. Of course I will only return to a game once because the last thing I want to do is keep returning to the same game over and over.
In the interest of full disclosure this game was crowdfunded through Kickstarter, I was one of the backers and received my key for the game as part of my reward.

Sword of the Necromancer is a roguelite where you play as a young woman named Tama who is desperately trying to bring her love interest Koko back from the dead. The core conceit of the game is that any enemy (with exception of bosses) you kill can be reanimated to fight for you using the Sword of the Necromancer. You can only have a maximum of three monsters out at a time as each one takes up an equipment slot meaning that if you wish to use a piece of equipment thats one less monster you can have on the field at a time.

The game features some absolutely beautiful anime style animations in the cutscenes, unfortunately as the game currently stands these are the only animations that are smooth. Both moving and fighting in the game feel incredibly slow and clunky, it almost seems as if the animation for the movement was missing every other frame. This is what gives the movement that slower more ponderous feeling and overall made the experience of playing somewhat unpleasant. This is a great shame as I really enjoyed the mechanic of summoning minions to help me and the challenge of balancing how many minions you have as well as what other equipment you take with you.
For me I would wait until there are a few fixes that improve that animation speed because that is the thing that really impinges on the enjoyment of the title.
