Doom Eternal The Ancient Gods pt 1 & pt 2 DLC

Developer: id Software

I have to say it, as much as I like this DLC it really doesn’t pull any punches. Almost as soon as you start you’re faced with mid to late game enemies often in multiples and in tightly packed spaces. And the action just doesn’t relent, or at least, not often. There’s still exploring to be done to find the various secrets etc around but I found almost every arena a real struggle to survive.

As is expected with DLC a few new enemies have been included, and when I say new I mean it, they haven’t been included in any other iteration of the Doom series.

Thinking on it I this might be the first DLC I’ve come across that comes with a ‘previously on’ sequence in case its been a while since you played the main game. I certainly can’t bring to mind any other DLC that does that.

This is, of course, more Doom Eternal, if you enjoyed the base game then this will more than likely be exactly what you’re wanting. It’s a fairly short piece standing at about six hours but I feel its well worth it and it really has me amped to play the second part.

This DLC is the thrilling conclusion to Doom Eternal and perhaps the current iteration of the Doom series as a whole, and I have to say I’m not at all disappointed. Well, I’m not disappointed with the conclusion and the rest of the game for the most part. However, I did encounter a couple of glitches that were game breaking while playing. Now had this had been within the first, oh I don’t know… week, of the game coming out I could have forgiven it as patches could still be coming. But this bug persists nearly five months after release… that’s unacceptable! Thankfully these bugs can be resolved quickly and easily by the player (just switch the resolution a bit lower) but I feel it shouldn’t be the players job to do such things, it’s literally what patches are for.

As is to be expected this DLC introduces even more new enemies to defeat and they’re actually quite interesting requiring the player to use different weapons and mods to deal with them effectively. It also brings in a new traversal mechanic which is quite tricky to get the hang of but once you do it feels amazing, especially if used in combat.

Much like the last DLC this one is worth the purchase of you’re a fan of the Doom series. You can get both of these DLC’s through the ‘Year One Pass’ for £24.99 rather than buying them one at a time.
