Lately it seems I’ve stumbled into the strange genre of simulation games, or more specifically the sort where your choices matter. Similar to games like Papers Please and Not Tonight this game will have you making many little choices (and a few major ones) that won’t seem all that important at first but will quickly snowball.

In Beholder you are tasked by the government to manage and maintain a small, but run down, apartment building. It’s your job to fix the day to day issues, keep the water running etc… oh and spy on the tenants. Yep, you spy on your various tenants, put cameras into their abodes, create portfolios on them and report them if they break the law. Of course, the laws change regularly, or rather new ones get added and many of them are… well, they’re stupid, like not being allowed to wear jeans or eat apples. Of course, while all this is going on your own family is having troubles.
This game is not easy, I played on the default difficulty setting and everything was a real struggle. There are a great many choices you’ll be making, the question is will you be a government lacky, aid your fellow man or perhaps be a revolutionary?
