In this game you take on the role of Detective Grimoire and his assistant Sally as you try to solve the unusual circumstances of one of Tangle Towers residents and in so doing uncover the secrets of Tangle Towers past. This is the second game in the ‘Grimoire’ series (a third is apparently in the works), these games are quite similar to the Professor Layton series on Nintendo albeit somewhat darker in theme generally.
The various characters you meet are quite quirky and each of them is hiding something. You’ll need to trip them up in their statements and gather clues that will prove your hypothesis. All of the characters are quite well realised, and each allows for a level of levity on occasion.
The puzzles aren’t generally too difficult though some can only be solved later in the game as you are missing vital information. There are one or two puzzles that had me stumped for a while though.
On the whole, this game is pretty good. I can’t speak on the price because your mileage will vary with this game, those used to puzzle games may sail through this where as those who aren’t as adept might find the game lasts weeks. Still, I’m looking forward to playing the third instalment, whenever that comes out.
