Small World 2 is the digital adaption of the board game Small World, a game I happen to own. I have to say I’m actually a little confused as to why it’s called Small World 2… It’s exactly the same as the board game and, strictly speaking, it’s not a sequel to anything. It should be called Small World: Digital Edition or something.

I tend to describe Small World 2 and it’s real world counterpart as a game similar to Risk, set in a fantasy setting with a limited number of turns.

I won’t go into the ins and outs of this game because, just like with my Ticket to Ride review, someone has already done a video explaining the rules and even showing a game in progress.

There are several complaints I have about this title. The UI isn’t very intuitive. The tutorial video that’s included crashes the game. And the tutorial video is actually a YouTube video so won’t work if you’re playing offline, for some reason.

As much as I love the original board game I can’t recommend this title, not even as a tool to learn. My advice to anyone who likes the look of this game, is get the board game. If you want to try it before buying just find a local games club or go to a tabletop event (they’re all over the place) and give it a go there.

If this interests you perhaps try:

Ticket to Ride
Talisman
Catan: Creator’s Edition
