This is a game that proves the adage of never judging a book by its cover, when I first saw this game my initial thought was ‘Oh, its a no brainer waved based shooter’. Little did I know that I was only partially right, it is indeed a wave based shooter but it’s definitely not a stupid one.

When you get into the meat of this game it turns out there are quite a few elements at play, such as upgradable weapons, more gear for you to acquire that can change the way you play the game and multiple enemy types that force you to change tactics part way through a wave (yes, I did say tactics).

Multitudes of monstrous enemies fling themselves in the direction of your mounted gun and the more of them you kill the more money you accrue. This money can later be spent buying new equipment, upgrades and resupplies. Usually you’ll end up doing that after you’ve been killed since you get to keep all your spoils. Then once you feel ready, you jump right back at the start of the wave you just died at.

Another thing that happens as you kill enemies is that you start to fill a combo meter once its full you get to select a temporary bonus out of a choice of three that will be applied immediately. The effectiveness of this bonus will depend on your timing as an icon of the bonus will appear on screen and begin to fill. If you click this icon too early, or too late the bonus will be weaker than at other points.

So yeah, for a game that costs under £4 its pretty good, definitely a lot more than I was expecting it’s campaign mode is pretty short, lasting maybe three hours. But there are challenge modes for those that might want them, personally I’ll give that a miss because I’ve never been one for that kind of gameplay mode.
