I’m to speak honestly it can quite hard to write a review on a game series, especially when the game itself doesn’t do much to change. It just feels like rehashing the same points over and over. Of course with this game its an even more awkward thing to do because there’s a bit of a complication with Serious Sam 2. You see, even though Serious Sam 2 does follow on from Serious Sam – The Second Encounter it graphically looks much worse. This is because the two previous instalments in the series were remade and rereleased using the Serious Engine 3 where as Serious Sam 2 hasn’t had such a treatment and works on the Serious Engine 2. Due to this you have the strange experience of seeing the previous games looking far better than its sequel.

Besides that the basic formula of Serious Sam hasn’t really changed, sure there are one or two minor things that have been added (and stripped away), but nothing that actually changes the way the game is played.

One thing that has changed is that Croteam went more slapstick and humorous in this game than in the previous installments. Most of the jokes don’t really land their mark, some of this might be due to some of it being lost in translation as the dev team are from Croatia or maybe its me… it’s probably me.

On the whole this isn’t a bad game at all, I had a great time playing it but it really does show its age.
