Yet another game from my childhood has been remastered, yes I know that nostalgia is the prime reason for this remasters (and plenty of others) very existence and that this game has been made to capitalise on it. I also recognise that I’m a sucker for getting it since I can actually make my original copy work. However I see this as a positive thing for game preservation, sure I know that this isn’t the game as it was originally released but that actually doesn’t matter because the core aspects of the game itself are still present and that’s the important thing.

Day of the Tentacle is a point and click puzzle game that was originally released by Lucasarts in 1993. As I mentioned before, this is one of those games I played as a kid, in fact I played it so much that this remaster didn’t really stand a chance against me as I blasted through all the puzzles even though the last time I played the original was well over 20 years ago.
I have to say I like some of the modernised touches they included such as the radial menu that appears when you right click the mouse button. It’s much more streamlined then the old system that had the menu at the bottom of the screen and allows more space for the visuals.

I think that anyone new playing this game will get a lot out of it. Sure the various pop culture references are quite dated but the humour that exists (mostly slapstick) is still solid. I wouldn’t like to guess at how long a new player would take to complete this game (without using a walkthrough) as that particular frame of reference really is beyond me now. What I can say is that most of the puzzles aren’t all that difficult if you’re willing to think outside the box… that being said there are still one or two puzzles that require a bit of moonlogic.
