I know I’ve said it before and I’ll very likely say it again “… metroidvania games are a dime a dozen, the trick is in finding the good ones…” in this case I’d say that this game is decent. I think my main issue with the game is that, at risk of sounding like an idiot, it’s a bit too difficult for me. I don’t often say that, I enjoy games that challenge me, but this game felt needlessly punishing in its difficulty at times.
Much like Hollow Knight this game does the Soulsbourne ‘thing’ of having your character drop his experience points to collect when he dies. What’s quite interesting is that you can’t gain more experience points until you collect the ones you dropped. This really forces the player to get back out there and regain them as soon as possible. And yes, I did say experience points, you gain them through killing enemies which culminate in skill points which in turn can be spent to improve your skills. However, these improvements won’t unlock new skills, just enhance them.

On the whole this isn’t a bad game, it’s not as good as Hollow Knight but then again that is pretty much the ‘A’ tier of metroidvanias. My only real issue with it is how punishingly difficult it can be seemingly for no reason.
