I may as well come out with at the start because I know that just saying this will cause people to stop reading right away, this game is political. It has very apparent commentary on USA’s recent history (as in Trump etc) that you would have to be totally oblivious to miss.
The game is set in the fictional country of Petria in 1996. The game is separated across 6 episodes and in each episode you take on the role of a different teenager. Each teenager is trying to make their way north to cross the border and flee the country and on their journeys they’ll encounter many events. Within each of these encounters you’ll have choices to make, some big and some small but all adding to a final result.

What I really enjoyed about the game was that you meet several characters multiple times as you playthrough the game and with each meeting you’ll learn something about them. Perhaps one character is not as bad as you thought they were or that the motivations you thought they had wasn’t quite right. What can be said is you’ll walk away from this game with a favourite character or perhaps set of them. The real meat of this game is those characters and the interactions you’ll have with them, you may have your own story but theirs is infinitely more interesting.

There is an energy meter but honestly it was easy enough to manage, this isn’t a survival game after all, you don’t have to constantly babysit the thing. Just be aware that it ticks down and occasionally you’ll need to eat, drink and rest to top it up.

This is genuinely one of those games that will stick with me, living rent free in my mind. I really do recommend this game, there aren’t many games that have truly well written and fleshed out characters and even fewer that make you want to find out more.
