Ever wanted to play poker against some of your favorite characters? Well now’s your chance! Play against Strong Bad (from Homestarrunner.com), Tycho (from Penny Arcade), Max (from the Sam and Max series) and the Heavy (from Team Fortress 2)! Those aren’t your favorites? Well tough, you’re stuck with them. Enjoy!

To be honest I’m not sure what exactly I can tell you about this title… It’s poker, one of the most played games on the planet. Sure the characters you’re up against aren’t the usual fair but the core game is poker. Of course, anyone who’s any good at poker (not me) will tell you that the cards are just one part of the game. That there’s much more to it. Like watching for facial expressions (thus the term poker face) and little ticks that allow you to perhaps guess what you’re opponent has, or the way you and your opponents bet and bluff each other.
In the case of this game the version of poker being played is Texas Hold’Em, where you’re given two cards in your hand to work with and five are dealt onto the table as community cards.

One of the things that I love about this game is hearing the banter between the various characters, Tycho asking the Heavy what his going rate is, that sort of thing. It adds a bit of flavor to what could easily have been a basic game of poker. If you find that the banter is too much or not enough for you, you can adjust its frequency in the options menu.

Every so often a character at the table will offer up an item rather than the $10,000 needed to play (don’t worry its in game currency, no micro-transactions here). If you can cause all the other players to go ‘bust’ you get that item plus all the cash that had been bet. These items you collect become equip able items for characters in Team Fortress 2.

If I do have one major criticism of this game its got to be the animations, even with the graphical settings on high and it running at 60 frames a second the characters still had choppy animations.

I see no reason not to play this. Its cheap, has unlocks for Team Fortress 2 and is pretty funny. What more could you ask for?

If you liked that then perhaps try;

Poker Night at the Inventory 2 (or Poker Night 2)
Card City Nights
Runespell: Overture
