Buck is a metroidvania-style post apocalyptic 2D side scrolling game being developed by Wave Interactive.
You play as Buck, an anthropomorphized dog who decides to abandon everything he knows to seek out the truth behind the disappearance of a girl.
The combat is fast paced and requires you to keep an eye on your stamina bar to ensure you can perform all the moves you require as well as carefully item management as you forage for scraps in this blasted wasteland.
The dialogue is player driven, so you get to make the choices of how Buck will respond to a given situation. Perhaps he will be aggressive, or maybe he’ll capitulate for an easier life.
If you want to give the game a go there’s a pre-alpha demo available to download on steam that will give you a basic feel for how the game will play. That being said, please keep in mind that it is a pre-alpha so there are a lot of little things to work out.
I will say though that while playing the demo I got a little bit of the feeling that the original Fallout games (as in 1 & 2) had. This is something the newer games have never really recaptured so I’m quite looking forward to see how this game develops.
This game came to my attention through Caddicarus (or @thecaddicarus on tumblr) after he did a video a while back about it. Sadly I was late to the party that time but since the developers have had a second attempt I thought I’d try to jump in on time.
This game has definitely caught my eye and its clear to see that the developers love what they’re doing, which is always a good sign. I’ll be keeping an eye on this game!
