Over the last weekend, in sunny Telford (UK), the small convention of CoxCon occurred. It was the brainchild of Jesse Cox and featured several panel guests such as Totalbiscuit, Genna Bain, WowCrendor and Jesse Cox himself. Unlike many conventions though, this one is more about gaming than anything else, so I thought perhaps I’d share some of the games that were there as well as a few thoughts on them.

If you want to read about them click below.

Extreme Exorcism

For those that remember that far (and well done if you do), Ripstone Publishing are the people behind Ironcast, the match three game where you pilot a steampunk mech, Well they’re back and this time they’ve brought Extreme Excorcism.

Extreme Exorcism is a 2D platformer, which looks and plays similarly to games like Towerfall Ascention or Duck Game, except for one key difference. Ghosts.
You see, every time a player wins a match a ghost that copies everything they did during the match appears. The next time someone wins another ghost appears, and another, and another. There’s only one way to remove the ghost and that’s by picking up a set of wings, if a ghost (or player) wanders within its radius then they’re killed.

I have to say this game was a lot of fun, I didn’t win a single match but enjoyed losing. Would’ve been nice to have won the tournament they held though.

CRAP! I’m Broke.

Crap! I’m Broke is a mobile and tablet game, but its a really good one featuring no ads etc because you have to buy it at full price.
In Crap! I’m Broke you play man who’s moved away from his parents for the first time, freedom at last! Unfortunately the cost of freedom is never free and the realities of life hit home straight away. You have to eat and pay the bills, what about all the stuff you want? Can’t live in a near empty flat forever!

I know that ordinarily I don’t show games that are only out on tablet but I loved this game, I’ll definitely be getting it when it finally arrives in August. What was really great was that the devs were taking feedback from those who played it and even took notes on what to change.
I’m going to have to work out how to capture footage of gameplay for this for review…

They also allowed myself and a friend to compete against each other to see who could get the farthest. I can happily say I won… although I went into debt the very next month.

Dark Souls – The Board Game

image

Once again this is something I don’t usually do but this really grabbed me, to the point where I dropped £80 for a late pledge on their Kickstarter

This game is brutal, as should be expected for a Souls game. I was playing this with my dear friend @touchthebushstan and we got annihilated. It seems that the completed game will focus almost solely on the boss and mini boss fights found throughout the entire Dark Souls francise.

In our case we were set against the Dancer of Boreal Valley, I died first. To simulate the way that Dark Souls works, the bosses attacks are predictable… at first. You only need to remember the order in which its attack cards appear, if you get it below a certain point of health though its attacks become randomised as well as having a new powerful attack added.

Unfortunately for you guys that’s all the games I actually had the chance to play. There were more but my own stall got so busy I had to head back and serve customers. However I did manage to take a few photos of the other games, maybe you can research them for yourself (like you should anyway!).
