It seems that visual novels come at a penny a dozen, and several of them are completely free. If you take a moment to look through Steam for them you quickly discover that there are literally hundreds of them. So it takes something special to really stand out, some do it by mixing other genres like Huniepop, others will get lucky and be found by some large Youtuber or another but most will just languish in obscurity.
To me Analogue: A Hate Story really sets itself apart from the rest by virtue of its storytelling and some of its more unique mechanics (at least unique to the genre). Its definitely not a game for someone wanting to veg out though, lots of reading… in fact all reading.
Honestly, yeah I liked this one. I’ve not played too many visual novels, that I will freely admit. But I know a good game when I play one and this one not only got my attention but kept it.
