Welcome to the first review of my Christmas period line-up, during this time I like to play games that all feature some kind of theme. This time I’m focusing on games you play with friends and family. As such I’ll be bringing on other people to put forward their own thoughts to these games which I will depict through the use of italics and bold etc.

So what is Carcassonne? Well it’s a fortified city in France, it’s also a tile based board game that has sold over ten million copies and now it’s a video game
version of the aforementioned board game. Actually this is the second version of the video game that has had significant graphical and user interface improvements.

The aim of the game is to be the player at the end with the most points, which are achieved through claiming tiles by placing meeples (in the board game these are little wooden people) on the cities, roads and monasteries that appear on the games tiles as you lay them. Sounds simple right? That’s because it is, but just because the rules are simple doesn’t mean that complex tactics can’t appear and believe me, they do.

This version of Carcassonne works exactly the same way as the tile based game. The AI is not particularly easy to beat on the easy setting, but I love this game no matter what format, I just dont take losing too well : ).

Despite the fact that this game is exactly the same as its mobile/tablet counter part and even allows you to log into a account that links all the games you have
you CAN’T restore your purchases. Meaning that the expansions I paid for on my tablet can’t be used on my Steam version. This is something that I feel is very wrong because (as I have previously mentioned) all the purchases I made for the tablet version of this game were done through the same linked account. If Star Realms can allow me to restore my purchases why can’t this game?

It does look pretty, music and sound effects add to the theme of the game making it thoroughly enjoyable and gives you something the board game is missing. It could do with more expansion packs to add to the base game.

It’s quite clear that this game is a port, specifically a port from the tablet game that came out the preceding May of 2017. The main indicator of this being that the games tutorial repeatedly tells you to ‘tap’ or ‘touch’ parts of the screen.

As you might be able to tell I actually have a copy of this game on my tablet as well, if that isn’t an indication that I may like this game I don’t know what is. But just in case you need it spelling out for you, yes this game is good and definitely worth your consideration!

If this appeals to you perhaps try;
