I avoided playing this game literally for years. Sometimes I’d install it, telling myself I’d get around to it next, then I’d play a different game and again and again. All the while the icon of a girls face with the horrific smile and bleeding eyes would stare at me from my desktop until I couldn’t take it anymore and I’d uninstall it. Every Halloween I’d perform this same ritual, install the game, ignore it and eventually uninstall it. Well this year I finally did it.

The game still bothers me on a fundamental level that I can’t quite articulate. I’ve tried repeatedly to write down my feelings and all I get is… well a rambling mess of analogies and examples. I think its the contents of the game itself, the trope of the ‘creepy little girl’ has always been one that has gotten to me but this game mixed it in with my the other thing that unnerves me to a irrational level, self mutilation. Just the trailer alone was enough to make me say “nope” to this game.
But as I said I finally did it I played it and well it definitely lives up to the hype, well to my own personal hype. Between the creepy music, minor jump scares, body horror and rather stark black and white aesthetic I was thoroughly unnerved.
