A game can go quite far on a wacky sense of humour, however that relies on the humour actually working for the person that is playing the game. For me this game missed the mark and the very reason for that was the games humour, well that and the art style put me off.
I should probably explain what I mean. As I’m sure we all know humour is very subjective, what is out of bounds for one person is very much fair game to another. Or as is the case with me here having ‘wacky’ and ‘weird’ humour for the sake of it just doesn’t work for me, or at least not often. On top of that the art style is too reminiscent of Adventure Time for me, which is a show I couldn’t get on with for much the same reason.

The actual meat and potatoes of the game isn’t bad though, the platforming controls are tight and the levels are quite challenging with a certain level of exploration that can be found.
I found the levelling system to be frustrating, or rather the perks you’re given when you level was frustrating. Sometimes you’re given a choice of three perks and others you literally have no choice at all. And the perks all felt like they were adding in content that was removed such as having your coins that you gathered being recoverable when you die by picking up your backpack (like the flying money bags in Shovel Knight).

I suspect this game will be great for those that get on with the sense of humour on display, its not the longest game in the world standing at about 10 hours and there’s a co-op option that I sadly didn’t get the chance to really try, who knows maybe that might have changed my thoughts on the game.
