Myst (or any of its sequels) was never a series that I’ve gotten around to playing, I know of it more by reputation than anything else. In fact the closest I got was I once played a parody game of Myst that was called Pyst… I seem to remember John Goodman was in it. Anyway, the reason I bring up Myst is because Obduction was developed by the creators of Myst through Kickstarter. Now, this isn’t a game that I backed, in fact I only found out about the Kickstarter campaign while doing some cursory research on the game.

So, how do I feel about the game? It’s alright actually, its not enough to persuade me to go look at Myst or Riven but I definitely enjoyed my time with it. Thing is, I doubt I would have picked up the game if it hadn’t have been going for free on the Epic game store at the time. I like a puzzle game but not enough to spend that much money on it. The puzzles range from being fairly simple right through to ‘I had to look it up on a walkthrough because there was no way in hell I would have worked that out on my own’. Yeah, I looked up a few answers on a walkthrough I don’t usually but I feel no shame for having done it with this game.

If puzzle games are your thing then this one should sate that itch you have for something challenging. The story is quite interesting too but I won’t spoil that.
