I featured this game in my ‘Demo Time’ segment last year (2024). Having now played through this game I think my initial assessment of the game was pretty accurate. To paraphrase what I said; ‘This game is what you’d get if Mario 64 had a baby with Crazy Taxi and that baby played too much Crash Bandicoot.’
You play as the titular yellow taxi who was created by Morio. It seems that the evil corporation Tosla are corrupting all the oil and it’s your job to defeat Tosla’s CEO Alien Mosk and thwart their evil plan. To do this you’ll need to collect green gears, that are scattered around the various levels, this will allow you to open a teleporter to Tosla’s HQ. You’re unaffected by their corruption of the oil because you are powered by a spring.
It’s such a joy to play, it’s bright (mostly), frenetic and very silly. The levels are all very varied in their designs and there are quite a few that you can choose to play through. You’ll access each of these levels through the hub zone that is Morio’s Lab. It’s not an overly long game, at least it isn’t if you focus on completing the main story, but if you want to go for 100% completion that will significantly increase the playtime.
This is just a great game, stupid and fun. I had a big grin on my face the whole time I was playing it even on the parts I struggled with. If you’re looking for a ‘collectathon’ I think this game might be just what you’re after.
