Peril on Gorgon is the first DLC and it recommends that you start it only once you’ve hit level twenty five, and having played through it I have to agree. This expansion pack takes place almost entirely on the asteroid known as Gorgon. This asteroid was once home a bustling science facility but for some reason Spacer’s Choice (the corporation that owns it) have left it to fall to ruin.

This DLC doesn’t just introduce a new and dangerous area to explore but also raises the games level cap by three and includs six new perks for your pleasure. Along side that the DLC also allows you to raise your specialised skills to 150 unlocking a new ‘virtuoso’ bonus. These are highly potent bonuses that require putting a lot of points into a single specialised skill. I suspect this was included to try and encourage players to specialise in their character builds.

There are new enemies to fight, well sort of, actually they’re more like variations on existing ones, but its still an improvement… even if the main difference is that the mantisaur now attacks me with ice instead of corrosive.

The Outer Worlds: Murder on Eridanos

Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
Publisher: Private Division
Rrp: £11.99 (Gog.com, Humblebundle, Steam and Epic) or Expansion pass for both DLC’s £20.99
Released: 17th March 2021
Available on: Gog.com, Humblebundle, Steam and Epic
Played Using: Mouse and Keyboard
Approximate game length: 16 hours

Murder on Eridanos is the second and final DLC for the Outer Worlds and in this one you’ll be investigating the murder of a famous star Ruth Belamy or as she’s better known on stage ‘Halcyon Helen’. The events of this DLC take place entirely in the skies of Eridanos where a luxury resort floats.

This DLC once again raises the level cap by three but changes nothing else beyond that. However, the way the game is play does change somewhat as quite quickly you’re given a new… tool called the Discrepancy Amplifier. Now strictly speaking the Discrepancy Amplifier is actually a weapon and even is meant to be used in one of the weapon slots in your inventory but the level of damage it can cause is in the single digits and it’s definitely not intended for that purpose. The Discrepancy Amplifier allows you to find clues that you can’t see with the naked eye and will tell you if you are near one even when it is not actively equipped. To actually see the clue it’s alerted you to you’ll need to equip it and aim down sights where upon it will reveal what it see’s, be it foot prints or analyse of a dead body.

Of course, just because your playing at being a detective doesn’t mean there isn’t any combat to be found, never fear there is plenty and it even introduces two actually new enemies.

I absolutely loved this DLC, I’ve always been fond of a murder mystery and being able to deduce what’s going on through careful study of the clues so this DLC really appealed to me.
