I always find myself drawn toward any media that has some kind post apocalyptic or dystopian setting be it in books, movies or games. I think its because as a kid I played the original Fallout games and those just ended up embedding themselves into my psyche. I’ll give anything with that setting a go as it can lead to some very interesting stories (and no, by post apocalyptic I doesn’t always mean nuclear fire, it can be zombies, earthquakes, disease etc).

Wasted is a game that I find myself in conflict with, I want to like this game and I do… sort of. The concept is perfectly fine if stupid, although it’s stupid by design. However there are a few things that hold me back from really enjoying it. One such issue I have is the combat, it can be frantic and messy, which is no bad thing, my issue is that sometimes it won’t detect my attacks. On more than one occasion I’ve had a run end because a enemy that I just shot in the head at point blank range with a shotgun somehow managed to avoid it and they’ve gotten a final hit in. Or on another occasion I was killed by an exploding barrel despite being well out of its blast radius (and no there is no shrapnel damage etc). That’s a pretty major flaw right there since this game is all about combat. The thing is I actually can look past this because on the whole that game works well and is fun, but when it does happen it can be…. infuriating.

What I have to say is that if you’re thinking of playing this game don’t come expecting a deep and rich narrative. Just accept it for what it is and have some fun.
