Forced: Slightly Better Edition

Developer: BetaDwarf
Rrp: £10.99 (Steam)

Lets be honest… most video game story premises are lacking to say the least. My personal theory for this is that it’s in part a holdover from the days of Pong and Missile Command. Not much story to really apply there (though by god did they try). Things in that department have improved since then, for the most part anyway. Forced is one of those games where the premise is… well, kinda dumb. A tribe keeps sending their greatest warriors in a deep pit to compete in gladiatorial combat. Yep, it’s real Shakespeare type stuff we have here.

Thankfully this is one of those games where the story really isn’t important. It’s a game designed from the top down to be a multiplayer experience. This is particularly evidenced in the dialogue that repeatedly refers to ‘gladiators and warriors’ in the plural sense regardless of how many people are actually playing. The problem is that this game just isn’t meant to be played solo, that much is very clear from the way the enemies very quickly swarm you.
If you were planning on playing this as a solo act, be prepared to struggle greatly. As a team game I really can see this game being a little gem though. I may just see if I can wrangle a few people together myself and have a go.
