I remember playing this (or at least the first game) on my friends Dreamcast. I was terrible at the game back then and to be honest I’ve only gotten worse since, but perhaps its a testament to this game, I still think it’s great.
As remasters go this one is fantastic, combining both the first and second Tony Hawk Pro Skater games (as should be apparent in by the name) into a single package. In fact I think this is more than a mere remaster and is probably more of a near faithful remake.
Every map has multiple challenges to complete and a very short time period in which to do so (thankfully you don’t have to complete all the challenges in that small time frame). After completing a specific amount of challenges a new level gets unlocked. Each of these levels are incredibly detailed and faithful to the original game, or at least as faithful as I can remember… it was about twenty years ago the original came out.
This game really is a blast from the past for me and a welcome one at that. Usually once I’ve reviewed a game it gets uninstalled and will be lucky to ever grace my desktop again, in this case though, I think I’ll keep it around. Who knows maybe I’ll actually become good at it one day?
