Ah, yet another roguelite, it seems I can’t move for the things lately. Thankfully, I happen to enjoy a good roguelite and that’s exactly what RAD is… Good. When I say good, don’t think Hades, Hades is on a completely other level, Hades is excellent not good. So why am I going on about the difference between good and excellent? Because I feel it important to make that distinction, people have forgotten that a seven out of ten game isn’t bad, not all games can be nine or ten out of tens, and to expect such is unrealistic. Moreover, thinking that way is extremely limiting.

Let’s get back to the game that adorns the reviews title. As I mentioned in the last paragraph, RAD is a roguelite set in the post-post-apocalyse, that’s right two separate apocalypses occurred and somehow humans are still around. You take on the role of a child who has been tasked to hunt for power sources for the village.

As you kill mutants in the wasteland you’ll absorb their radiation, don’t worry this is a good thing (generally). When you breach a certain threshold you gain a random mutation, these mutations come in two varieties; endo and exo. Endo mutations are completely passive where as exo require you to actively use them. Not all the mutations are beneficial though, occasionally you’ll get the odd dud.

I got a real kick out of this game, especially the early 90’s aesthetic it has adopted. If you’re in the market for another roguelite you really could do much worse than RAD.
