Lovecraft is a… problematic individual, I think that is a well known thing. Thankfully, sometimes the art someone creates can take on its own life and that’s exactly what’s happened with the works of H.P Lovecraft, so we get to enjoy the horror he created without engaging in any of his opinions.
This game is a roguelite with a bit of a twist, unlike many roguelites where the meta-progression is through stats and currency (like in Hades) or the building up of a community (like Rogue Legacy) this game has it occur though the items you collect. However, those items are automatically available to you when you start a new run. Within each location there’s a chest that you can access once, in it are any items you have left in it regardless of which run. This means over time you end up with an abundance of resources to call upon but you can only do it once per location.

There are five characters to play as but you will unlock each one as you play through them. Each plays very differently and will allow you to collect clues on how to defeat the Great Old Ones. With each piece of info you get the chances of success increase, so multiple playthroughs are required.
This game is incredibly difficult and its very easy to have a bad run. A simple misstep is all it takes to complete screw you over. Thankfully the game isn’t so vicious as to force you to restart the game from the very beginning and will instead make you restart the location.
