Hellbound is a first person shooter designed to play like a classic shooter from the 90’s, specifically it takes its biggest inspiration from the original release of Doom (from 1993). For the most part the game does indeed play like an old school FPS (or Boomer Shooter), there’s no weapon reloading, you collect keys in order to progress through the various levels, the levels end with a stat screen, the main HUD of the game has a depiction of your characters face that gets bloodier as he gets more damaged… the list goes on. The only thing that isn’t true to the shooters of old is that every weapon has an alternate fire mode, but that’s no bad thing.

As Boomer Shooters go this one isn’t bad, though a little short and lacking enough enemy variety for my tastes. There isn’t any DLC to encourage further playing of the game either, which seems a shame, but perhaps the game would outstay its welcome if it went on much longer.
