Return of the Obra Dinn

Where to start with this game? It’s easy to gush over it as it really is a master work in story telling in piecemeal. You take on the role of a Insurance Investigator for the East India Company who is investigating the mysterious return of the ship the Obra Dinn. It’s your job to uncover the fates of all those who were aboard, of which most were gruesome.

As you explore the ship you’ll see a lot of snippits of the past recreated as 3D dioramas that you can wander around. Before each diorama though you’ll be given black screen and a very well voice acted scene. That black screen and the diorama will give you clues as to what has occurred and who people within the scene are. I make a point of mentioning how well voice acted the scene is because of the fact that some clues as to the identity of some of the characters are given through their accents. For example, I was able to work out who a specific character was simply because they said a phrase in their language that allowed me to pin point what country they were from, otherwise I didn’t have many clues at all.

It seems that Lucas Pope has a bit of an M.O (based off of two games). Give the player a role that sounds completely mundane such as a Border Control Guard or an Insurance Investigator but make the act of playing as them interesting and challenging.

Go get this game its well worth it!
