Sucker For Love: First Date is a visual novel with a mix of horror, romance and comedy. Originally the game was created as part of the Dread X Collection 2 and was created in just seven days. Since then the game has been reworked with new art assets and has been extended greatly to include extra characters and chapters. I’m so glad that the game is fully voice acted (with exception of the player character) as it really gives some of the lines the menacing tone that could be missed through only reading the text.
The core concept of the game is that your character seems to have a thing for eldritch horrors and wants to smooch them, seemingly regardless of the cost. He starts off with a female version of Cthuhlhu named Ln’eta and can find two other entities from there.
I absolutely love this twist on the visual novel genre, of course I’m well aware that this isn’t the only visual novel to have darker twists (like Doki Doki Literature Club) but it’s still great to see more being created. This game is well worth the price and I’m so pleased that another game in the series has been released as I fully intend to get that one too.
