Yet another boomer shooter, you’d think I’d be bored of these by now but I’m not, or at least I’m not when they’re as interesting as this one. Some of you may think that it’s the Lovecraftian inspiration that I find interesting but honestly it’s not. It’s an enjoyable theme, but not what makes this game interesting to me.
What I find so interesting is the weapon upgrade system, it works in the manner that most RPG’s do, kill enemies, gain experience and level up. But here’s where it gets interesting, when you spend those levels upgrading depending on what you pick something else will be locked off. You decided to upgrade your starting pistol from a revolver into a mauser? Well now you don’t get access to the maximum health increase that comes from going along the ‘duel wield’ path. Sometimes a weapon will combine with another or it changes the type of ammunition it takes. This actually makes for some real changes in gameplay.

Another thing that’s interesting is that some enemies have weak points that you can capitalise on but they aren’t always readily apparent, and of course headshots make a difference. I don’t think I’ve ever played a boomer shooter where a headshot actually mattered.
Honestly I had a lot of fun with this game, I would call it simple and mindless but it’s definitely not mindless. As boomer shooters go there aren’t many that I would say are as good as this one.
