In the rare occasions that I review a game that’s multiplayer I tend to ask each of my fellow players to write what their thoughts of the game are and to keep it to a few sentences or a paragraph. However it seems that one player decided to write what amounts to a review in of itself. So because of that I’ve decided to sod off my usual method and I’m just going to post their review (to be honest its not too far from my own opinion). Although I must mention one thing that my friend did omit, unlike Jackbox Party Pack (any of them) you don’t need to install a app to play, in this one you do.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the quiz genre as I feel that I have very little general knowledge to speak of. That being said, I do enjoy games like Trivial Pursuit and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by “It’s Quiz Time.”

The questions in the game are divided into many different subjects; from ‘Mathematics’ to ‘Celebrity Knowledge’ to ‘70s Rock’. It is not based purely on general knowledge questions but an entire array of subjects that anyone can be good at. I myself excelled at ‘Arithmetic’ and ‘Hard Rock Music’ but found that I was very poor at ‘Sports’ and ‘Comedy Films.’ With some questions the player can take their time to answer but in others they are racing the clock or other players. In these rounds the faster you answer correctly, the more points you receive.

The host of the game is presented as an Artificial Intelligence called Salli. Throughout the game she will make cheeky comments about the wrong answers you gave or who she is expecting to win. This is mildly amusing at first but quickly becomes repetitive and not worth all that much after a while.

There is a round called “Guesstimation” which I enjoyed. The premise is to estimate the answer to a question getting as close to the actual answer as possible. We played this with the subject ‘Arithmetic’ and I found that for some answers it was possible to select the true answer, for which you gain extra points, while in other rounds it simply would not select the exact number you wanted. As the aim of this round is to make an educated guess at the answer however this is not really a problem. You still get points for being very close.

In each game that I played, one round entailed the current leading player playing off against the other players in a subject chosen by the leader. This was fun to play because the subject gets chosen by the leader but the challengers get to pool their collective knowledge, and the fastest person to click the right (or wrong) answer gets or loses the points. A quick trigger finger is therefore vital in this round. Needless to say, this came with much shouting and bad excuses.

I would say that the game’s main competitor is “Jackbox,” a similar game but with a big selection of mini-games, both quiz-based and not quiz based. I personally prefer “Jackbox” over “It’s Quiz Time” as I largely find it much funnier and can play it for longer without getting bored. Another point in Jackbox’s favour is that it does not require that you download an app to be able to play, which “It’s Quiz Time” does. Overall “It’s Quiz Time” is a fun little game to play with the family or friends but maybe not the best option out there.
