The aim of the game is to kill the bad guy (duh), in each level a coloured figure wanders around, this figure is your target. You use the environment to bring about his demise be this through sabotaged cars, wrecking balls or electrical shock.
Once you’ve disposed of your target you’re rewarded with a action replay of the event, complete with the ability to change the camera angle.
Merely eliminating the bad guy isn’t enough though, each of the levels the game is separated into has a optional secondary objective, a hidden passport to find, a tooth to grab (which flies out of the bad guy when he dies) and completing the mission in one try. If you succeed in accomplishing all these tasks you get a gold star for the level.
You may be asking what’s the point of getting all these stars? Well, you strange person who talks to their screen, the stars unlock bonus missions. These missions are silly little asides parodying trends within the games industry. You’ll get what I mean the moment you play the first one.
At the start of each level you’re shown a screen with your target and the location for your hit. This screen gives you a little flavor text on the job as well as giving you a pretty vague optional secondary objective.
Exkee have chosen to keep a simple and uncluttered aesthetic for the game. The levels are quite compact with most of the scenery being left white, only the bad guy himself and the objects you can use have any colour. This choice not only allows the player to easily see their target and tools but also makes it easy on the eye.
When it comes to assassination timing is everything, set off your trap too early he’ll make a break for it and its unlikely you’ll catch him, do it too late and he will just breeze right past you. You can retry the level over and over until you get it right, but if you’re wanting to get those gold stars you’ll need to be timely.
Of course as the game goes on it gets more and more difficult, innocent bystanders, bodyguards start appearing and causing trouble.
This game is definitely worth a look, I’m not sure if its £6.99 worth myself, but I’ve had a decent amount of fun even if the whole thing was a little short. If you’re interested but aren’t certain if it’ll be for you there’s a free demo available.
Oh and any and all characters resembling real people are completely coincidental… not at all parodying topical people or anything. Nope, not one bit.
