It was only a matter of time before the bullet heaven genre evolved, and much like the platformers of yore that evolution was 3D. Now I’m not saying other bullet heavens didn’t do other interesting things, many truly did. However, those changes didn’t change the very way the game was played. Just like with platformers including the third dimension increases the complexity of the game, on a very basic level you now have to consider enemies being above you something that just wasn’t a thing in 2D.
I could be really reductive about the game and simply say “it’s Vampire Survivors but in 3D” but I think that’s something of a disservice. For example, certain levels have bosses that will only appear if you play as a specific character on that level and then perform the required action.

There is absolutely no semblance of a story in this game, no bestiary either (at least not at the time of writing) which feels like a missed opportunity. This game is filled with so many little jokes and goofs that having a silly bestiary would fit in well, besides I want to know the lore of ‘Scorpionussy’.
So yeah, this is a fun and silly little roguelite. It’s great for just picking up playing a quick session and putting down but also can be replayed over and over. This is joining the many games that I keep on my Steamdeck for long trips and appointments.
